Light Plot Deconstructed

Gregg Hillmar is a scenic and lighting designer based in Richmond, VA. Mr. Hillmar’s design work has been seen at Theatre IV and Barksdale Theatre in Richmond, Virginia, Maryland Arts Festival in Baltimore, First Night Annapolis, Riverside Center in Fredricksburg, Virginia, Toby’s in Columbia, Maryland, Theatre Project Company in St. Louis, Wayside Theatre in Middletown, Virginia, Arrow Rock Lyceum Theatre in Arrow Rock, Missouri, Zachary Scott Theatre and Capital City Playhouse in Austin, Texas, among others.

Dance and opera designs include national tours for Donetsk (Ukraine) Ballet and Charleston Ballet, Richmond Ballet, Capitol Ballet at the Kennedy Center in Washington D.C., Nevada Dance Theatre in Las Vegas, Texas Opera Theatre in Houston, Las Vegas Opera Theatre, Nevada Opera, and many others.

Non-theatre work includes galleries, exhibits, and shows for clients such as The Library of Virginia and The Science Museum of Virginia.

Mr. Hillmar is a recognized and published consultant in Vectorworks, and has been asked to demonstrate Vectorworks by Nemetschek North America, the publishers of Vectorworks, at their booth at industry conventions including LDI, USITT, and SETC. He has also worked as a Vectorworks trainer and consultant for private corporations and public training seminars sponsored by theatrical organizations and educational institutions. Mr. Hillmar has done Spotlight training sessions for NNA’s own sales and tech support teams, including taking them into theatres to witness first hand the spaces, materials, and tools of the theatre industry.

In his copious free time, Gregg teaches at Randolph-Macon College in Ashland, VA.
